MacOS 12.01 Photos Show Edit Tools on Mulitple Photos Having Issues

Hello,

Since I upgraded to MacOS 12.01, the Show Edit Tools in Photos has been having issues.

Normally, whenever I select multiple photos and click on "Show Edit Tools" it opens the first photo of the selected group/batch. I can then edit the first photo and copy-paste apply those changes to the other photos that are selected with it.

However, since the upgrade to MacOS 12.01, I can only use the "Show Edit Tools" on one selected batch of photos. If I want to perform this action on another selected batch afterward, it opens up the previous batch of selected photos I had already completed.

I have to shut down Photos and restart it every time I want to select a new batch of photos to edit. This is very frustrating because I edit a large number of batches like this on a daily basis.

Any suggestions?

p.s. I have repaired the Library twice but that made zero difference.

Hello alcheme,

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. We understand that you're running into an issue regarding editing tools for macOS 12.01. Reviewing article, Photo editing basics in Photos on Mac, section: Copy and paste adjustments, the following is noted.

"You can’t copy and paste the settings from the retouch tool, red-eye tool, crop tool, or third-party extensions."

It's possible this has been a change that was implemented in the new macOS release.

If this doesn't fit what you're experiencing, you might want to reach out to Apple Support for more guidance. You can connect with them directly at Get Support.

Best regards.

Hello TonyCollinet,

Thank you. That Method does work.

So instead of selecting multiples, I will only select a single, and while in the editing mode copy the adjustments and use the Arrow keys to navigate to the photos requiring the same adjustments.

The modified batch copy adjustment process:

  1. Select single image
  2. Perform adjustments
  3. While still in the editing window, Copy the Adjustments Shift+Command+C
  4. Using the Arrow Keys, move to other images and Paste the Adjustments Shift+Command+V

Have a wonderful day!

Hi Missy5937

This is 100% a new bug in MacOS Photos. The ability to select multiple photos at once and then edit the first in the selection followed by copying and pasting the edits to the other photos in the selection has been there for years.

Now, we have to shut down MacOS Photos every single time we want to edit additional sets of multiple images.

Basically, I select the images I want to edit and then hit the space or enter key. It then selects the previous group of images I selected again. It appears to be stuck on the original multiple selections of images and it will not recognize any new selection of multiple images for editing in batches as I described before.

I have tried repairing the libraries, creating new ones, etc. but this does not work.

So the ONLY feature that allows any sort of batch processing is broken.
