I can't retrieve mail that has been stored. Seems to have disappeared. Is there a fix?

Start with this...
Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at startup), does the problem occur in Safe Mode? Could take 10 minutes.
Safe mode attempts to repair Disks & clears lots of caches & loads safe Drivers, & prevents loading of 3rd party extensions, so if Safe Mode works try again in regular boot.

Apple Mail is installed as part of the Operating System and can not be removed even by accident.
The Application may have been removed from the Disk but still exists and located in the Applications folder. Open Applications folder and find the Apple Mail application.
If desired Drag the Icon to the Dock for quick and easy access. It will place an Alias in the Dock ( in Windows terms - a Shortcut )
