Files dropped in the "Automatically Add to Music" folder are not being moved to the "Music Media folder location."

After updating to Monterey, the Music application is acting differently than in previous versions.

Normally, when I drop files in the "Automatically Add to Music" folder they are moved to the "Music Media folder location" specified in Music preferences. They are not being moved now. In addition, in the past if the "Automatically Add to Music" folder is deleted, and the Music app is restarted, it creates a new version of the "Automatically Add to Music" folder. That is not happening either.

Hello danlevity,

Thanks for following up. Just to test something out from that previous article, would you mind going to Music app on your Mac, choose File > Library > Organize Library and select “Consolidate files"? If this is already checked, try unchecking it, restarting your Mac, recheck it and try again?

If that doesn't work, try testing the process out while booted into safe mode and after leaving safe mode with a standard restart. Should the issue persist, it would be best to speak with an Apple Support Advisor for additional assistance and so they can investigate the issue to confirm the feature is still available in the current MacOS.

No, thank you Missy5937. I am not talking about manually importing files into my library, as the article you linked to describes.

There is another way, longstanding in both the old iTunes and newer Music applications, where one can drag files into the "Automatically Add to Music" folder found in each Music library folder. Those files get moved into Music.

This is not working in Monterey. In fact I am not the only person experiencing this problem as you can see in this thread from another user forum: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/music-missing-features-bugs-issues-troubleshooting.2299721/page-8 starting at post #176

This is either a bug in Monterey or a terrible removal of a critical feature.

Thanks. I appreciate and will try your suggestions. But why wait to find out if the feature is still available? Why not inquire now, so that we can put the matter to rest for the many many people who are frustrated with this broken feature.

How can I get past the various Advisors (I've already spoken to two) who can answer the question. Both of the Advisors I spoke to seemed to know nothing at all about the Music app, it's predecessor iTunes, or really anything about how to use the software. I would really like to speak directly to a person who actually uses the software.
