MacBook Pro 16" (2021) M1Pro Charging issue?

Just bought the 16" MBP M1Pro and noticed when I "shutdown" the MacBook, close the lid, plug in the supplied MagSafe charger to the Mac, the MagSafe indicator light flashes amber and making a connect/disconnect sound from the Mac. Now if the Mac is powered on, charging works as it should. Spoke with Apple Support on this and they have no clue on this type of issue. Anyone else experiencing this issue?

I skipped on sending it in for a replacement and followed a tip I found somewhere about the "Battery Optimization" feature. Don't even really understand what its supposed to do, my comprehension skills aren't the best but I guess its supposed to help with the battery life by following your charging habits. What I took it to mean is that it wont charge my laptop when I plug it in based on some arbitrary AI trying to track my sporadic and random habits of charging.

So.... Turned that feature off and I can safely say that my laptop charges whenever I plug it in, close the lid, shut down, etc. No more blinking on and off with the charger light going on and off. Works like normal.

I did also update after receiving it, i'll assume its the 12.0.1 (I'm not on that laptop right now to check but im sure Monterey hasn't had that many updates since I got the laptop a week ago.)

Hope this helps someone out.

Thanks for the feed. It's a growing number of folks and you're right, at this point there would be no reason to exchange the book since the problem still persist in the replacements. I think people should still report it to Apple for awareness of the situation and hopefully address it by a firmware/software update or a new updated power brick. BTW - still waiting for me replacement to arrive.

Any functioning USB charger will work. Yes, any. I tried it with one of the little cube chargers that used to ship with iPhones, and a generic USB-A to USB-C cable. That's 5 Watts -- a tiny fraction of even the smallest available MBP charger -- and I have a 16" MBP. Plugged it in at night and woke up to a full battery.

Most small USB chargers don't have enough power to charge the battery while the computer is running, but anything with at least 1 Amp (haven't tried anything smaller) can charge the battery when the computer is idle and closed or asleep.

If you have a powered Thunderbolt or USB-C device with power delivery, that'll charge your MBP, too. When I'm at home, I plug my MBP in to a powered Thunderbolt dock. It only provides 60W, but that's several times as much as I need to keep the battery full.

FWIW.

<< tingly/stingy sensation from the aforementioned power supply, >>

if Users remove the "dusk head" and substitute the US$20 accessory fully grounded AC extension cord from the Apple store, or re-use one from an older MacBook power supply, almost all complaints of tingling while charging disappear. it has a metal plate inside that connects ground in the cord to the big chromed Lug:

My MacBook Pro M1Pro 16” (1 TB SSD) has this same problem. The battery was at 33%. I bought it less than a week ago. I turned it off for the first time and plugged it in to charge. It makes a beeping sound every few seconds, and the amber light on the charging cable blinks on and off. I found this thread and another on Reddit where a lot of people are having this same issue. I don’t think the solution is to replace your MacBook. The solution seems to be for Apple to make a fix. Apple, what do we do? These computers weren’t cheap.
