Unable to Index Google Drive as External Volume

Hi guys, I have a problem to get my Google Drive volume indexed by mac os.

There are several workaround I have tried without any luck such as:

  • Run terminal command sudo mdutil -i on /Volumes/GoogleDrive, only bring response:
/System/Volumes/Data/Volumes/GoogleDrive:
	Indexing and searching disabled.
  • Run terminal command sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.SpotlightServer.plist ExternalVolumesIgnore -bool False, only bring response following code in the com.apple.SpotlightServer.plist
bplist00—_ExternalVolumesIgnore#$
  • Run terminal command sudo mdutil -E /Volumes/GoogleDrive, only bring response:
mdutil disabling Spotlight: /System/Volumes/Data/Volumes/GoogleDrive -> kMDConfigSearchLevelOff
	Indexing and searching disabled.
  • Run terminal command sudo launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.metadata.mds.plist and sudo launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.metadata.mds.plist
  • Upgrade to macOS Monterey
  • Look for .metadata_never_index, there is no such files found in the google drive volume
  • Reinstall google drive several times
  • Adding and removing google drive from spotlight preferences

Any advise will be very appreciated. Losing search ability means losing productivity for me.

There are no workarounds for indexing streamed content. The only options are to Mirror, or move the folders out of the stream to another location and then use Sync preferences in Folders from your computer.

All I can suggest is to use the app feedback to let Google know your thoughts.

Tried all the work arounds ... nothing worked. Finally had to get a 3rd party app and pay to upgrade it to get the packet to find files. It does find them... but does not work when saving files. It helps but this issue needs fixed. Sooner please. It has gone on too long. Won't upgrade my laptop as indexing is still working there. My iMac is a mess!!!!! I avoid using it more and more. Are you listening Apple fix this or others too will start to avoid using your products.

I agree. This has messed me up ever since upgrading to Monterey, complete disaster for work performance. The only thing that has somewhat worked is the program "Alfred", but that is only a half fix because you can't search for files while using other programs like word or when attaching an email. Apple needs to do something here as this is completely ridiculous.

I used to have this mindset with Apple that it would just always work. Never really ran into issues where printers, hardware, or searching didn't work. That's part of the reason I've stayed with Apple products. With Monterey I've had this issue, which is killing me on productivity (I need to browse to find things), and my **** bluetooth headset automatically mutes itself while on video chat. Come on Apple. I guess these issues are not important enough to fix?
