iCloud photos upload and sync

Hi there,

Im helping a friend try to store their photo collection to iCloud from a Mac with Yosemite 10.10.5.

There doesn’t seem to be any option to upload and store photos to iCloud.

Computer is plugged in and connected to wifi. The systems preferences iCloud Photo Library, my photo stream and iCloud photo sharing are all selected. And it claims to automatically upload and store the entire library.

However the only photos that have come across to the iPhone are ones that I have manually shared via my streams. My streams has a max of 5K photos and we need to upload 12.5K photos.

Thanks I read it. I think we need to shift 12.5K photos from my photo stream to iCloud.

How is that possible on Yosemite 10.10.5? My photo stream has maxed out at 5K photos and the start up disk is now completely full - Im guessing because iCloud Drive has synced with new phone and is now taking up more space on disk.
