My Mac running Big Sur does not show photos taken with phone or ipad. I can get them there with airdrop but that is a nuisance. The online steps do not work as I have made very certain the Photo app is checked in Preferences>icloud.

How My Photo Stream works with iCloud Photos
My Photo Stream uploads your most recent photos (except Live Photos) so that you can view and import them to all of your devices. Photos are stored in My Photo Stream for 30 days. iCloud Photos uploads all of your photos and videos to iCloud and keeps them up to date across your devices.
If you turn on both My Photo Stream and iCloud Photos on an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, photos that you take with that device upload to both iCloud Photos and My Photo Stream.
If you use another device with the same Apple ID that has only My Photo Stream turned on, photos that you take on that device upload only to My Photo Stream. They don't appear on any devices that have only iCloud Photos enabled.
I am guessing that turning on the photo stream on the iPhone enabled what I wanted. I'm sorry to say I did not try things in a scientific way but the issue is resolved. There is no option Photos on the iPhone that is NOT marked on or green. Thanks tygb.

I apologize but I don't see any insight here for me. I have seen all of these links. Is downloading originals necessary to have a view all all photos taken with iPhone? It used to not require any such action. My Photo app says it was last updated August 28th. I cannot get it to update or re-sync or whatever it may be called.
