how do I update MacOS so it updates my Safari>

How do I update my MacBook Pro as it appears my Safari is out of date and I am unable to use QuickLook to edit a pdf on my MacBook Pro without updating my MacOS system. How do I accomplish this?

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.13

Back up your data, check your applications for compatibility, and depending on which Mac model you have, click on Mojave, Catalina, Big Sur, or Monterey. It needs to be at least a 2012 one to be upgraded.
