Led Cinema Display brightness control not working after upgraded to macOS Monterey

My setup is a Mac mini M1 connected to a 27" Led Cinema Display via USB-C adapter for mini displayport. Working perfectly with MacOs Big Sur since always. But when I upgrade to Monterey, the monitor's brightness come locked at 50%, and brightness commands disappeared in System Preferences. Brightness keys on Apple Keyboard don't work either (f1, f2, f14, f15) I've tried apps like MonitorControl, but they only serve to decrease brightness ... the maximum brightness in these applications starts from 50% that the monitor is stuck. Anyone else having this problem? What can I do?

First off, thanks to everyone on the board.

My setup - Mac Mini M1, Thunderbolt Display off USB-C, LED Cinema Display off HDMI

Installed Monitor Control on Mac Mini M1 running Monterey and adjusted the DDC Max to 255. Brightness level still stuck at 50%.

Installed Monitor Control on a MacBook Pro running Catalina, connected Cinema Display, and adjusted the DDC Max to 255.

And voila, was able to get brightness to 100% in this environment (Macbook Pro / Catalina / DDC Max 255)

Afterwards, I disconnected the Cinema Display and connected it back into the Mac Mini M1 setup. Bam 100% brightness. The brightness level was maintained from where I had it prior to unplugging from Macbook Pro.

I have been away from my Mac Studio for a couple of months but there seems to be a general improvement with the Cinema Display brightness issue since my return.

Full brightness is still not achieved but comes on at around 80% - 90% at startup.

If the Mac falls asleep, the Cinema Display brightness tend to drop after waking.

Over prolonged use, the monitor might flicker on and off until it goes off completely. This may be due to overheating, or to a faulty power unit. Detaching power and allowing the monitor or power unit time to cool off seems to remedy the problem, anyway.

Also, updating to macOS Monterey 12.6 may have helped stabilise the brightness overall. The Cinema Display still has no brightness control in the Displays Preference setting, however.

Here's a 3rd party fix! If it can't detect the brightness or contrast then put it as 50 and 50, it works perfectly with my 24"! https://lunar.fyi/

Did you try this first? Shouldn't be necessary to use a third party.

I had this problem

In monitor control, try setting brightness DDC max at 255, then adjust the brightness.

Yes, same here with 24" Led Cinema display, Mac mini M1. Even brightness slider displayed by Siri does nothing!

worked fine before, for many years.

Hoping for a bug fix in next update.

Yes, hopefully they will solve it in an upcoming update, it's a Monterey problem. For now I'm solving it with the MonitorControl app.

I have a M1 MBA and after updated to Monterey the brightness adjustment is not working for Apple Cinema Display 27". I downgraded to Big Sur to use this. So sad. Apple please help

MonitorControl reduces the colours, whereas lunar.fyi actually changes the brightness of the panel

Install either MonitorControl or lunar.fyi, that should fix it. It'd be good if it was native tho

Thanks good suggestion. I too think we should ask Apple for the inclusion of the control as well in macOS Monterey for security purposes.
