Monterey several issues

I installed Monterey yesterday on my M1 Mac mini and encountered several issues:

  1. Could not update, it kept throwing the failed to personalize error
  2. I had to wipe the ssd twice in order to get it installed (got 3 errors when trying to update from usb and then when trying to clean install first time)
  3. does not accept the password in system preferences, the window keeps shaking (the password is correct as I am writing now)
  4. onscreen control for my LG display is not working to split screen anymore (software updated 19.10)
  5. my Logitech mx mouse stopped scrolling, came back after reboot

conclusion - Monterey is not mature yet, updates needed

I would like to offer some things to consider. Before a new OS is release, it is beta tested extensively. (I have been a participant.) Yes, there may still be some miner bugs when released, but the vast majority of users experience no problems. I am one of them. In my experience on this forum, I have seen one recurring trend. That is that most times when people experience update or upgrade issues, later when the problems have been solved, the problem was virtually due to an existing underlying problem. Often related to some junk app being installed which conflicted with something else. Or due to the user having never done critical maintenance, such as emptying the trash or restarting the computer, etc. It goes on and on. And yet, those people often blame Apple for their own omissions. The bottom line is this, Before doing an upgrade, it is important to (1) do a complete backup, and (2) make sure that the Mac is stable without those underlying problems which WILL be carried forward. Sometimes a clean install is the best thing to do to get a fresh start.

You make false assumptions. I emptied the recycle bin, had 85 gb free space left, done critical maintenance, restarted the computer several times, use common legit apps. What makes me think that Monterey is an immature OS is that I have 2 closely similar Macs, a MacBook Air M1 8 Gb/256 Gb and a Mac mini M1 8 Gb/256 Gb, both of them bought first hand from the store. I first bought the Air and then cloned it to the mini at first boot, my two computers are 99% identical, the exception being made by my LG external display with a management app. On the road/at office I work on the Air, at home, on the mini, they both acces files from the same OneDrive cloud folder I work in. I updated the Air first, flawless. Minutes later, I tried to update the mini with flaws - threw me the personalize error several times (even after reboot and in safe mode), not allowed or smth error when tried to update from USB, had to wipe the SSD twice to clean install. OK, I had a time machine backup and did not loose anything, but I find this behaviour very weird.

All updates and upgrades have had install issues in the past for some users (I installed Monterey on several machine withouth problems, though). Let's find out what's yours.

Have you tried reinitializing the Mac before d/loading and installing (in Recovery mode)? This I did for precaution although having a perfectly functioning m1 mini with Monterey 12.0.1 coming from public betas.

As I said, I tried everything and now it's working. I am sorry for writing here, I forgot Apple fanboys are at duty and Apple is always perfect, with no flaws. The user is always to blame but this time Monterey was buggy, not the user. I have been using Macs since G5 iMac so I think I am quite qualified to make assumptions given the dozens of Macs that I have reanimated over the years. Topic closed.
