Where do I go to get the recovery key for my iPad

Do you mean your Apple ID account recovery key? It will be wherever you wrote it down for safekeeping.
You can generate a new one from any other trusted device (eg. iPhone) that you are logged into.
Settings > Apple ID > password & security > recovery key > create new
