Monterey 12.0.1 Screensaver photos only produces black screen
How do I get my photo screensaver back?
How do I get my photo screensaver back?
Hi livo34,
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. It sounds like you're having an issue with your photo screensaver since updating. We're happy to provide some information to assist.
We recommend ensuring your settings are correct using the guide here: Use a screen saver on your Mac
Specifically, the section that states "Source: Click the pop-up menu, then choose the pictures to show in the screen saver. You can use pictures that come with macOS or choose pictures from your Photo Library or another folder."
If the issue continues, we'd recommend testing in a new user account and when booted to safe mode.
Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac
How to use safe mode on your Mac
Should the issue remain, reach out to Apple Support to further assist.
Best!

Now upgrade to 12.1 to fix.
There's a known bug in Monterey and the screensaver in that any theme that requires using image file from either the Photos Library or a folder on the hard drive does not work. It just gives a blank screen.
The workaround until Apple releases a fix is to use one of the other themes that do no use image files.
FWIW, there is a known problem with photo screen savers in Monterey.
It would be helpful to send Apple feedback.
Agreed this is not a problem that can be solved on the user end. It should be at the attention of staff so its fixed in the next update, as soon as possible. This is a problem w the system/update.
When is this going to be fixed?
We just want to look at our own photos, and by the way there was a function before that allowed us to go backwards or forwards using the arrow keys, very usefull but not working anymore either
I'm still not sure why my 3 Macs do not have this issue except as I have noted in other links I have a ilifemediabrowser file in my library/application support directory that appears to impact this function.
Nothing has changed.
I have lost all my photo screensaver functions.
I get a black screen, that's it.
Apple solutions were not helpful in remediating my problem.
Hopefully it'll be in the next public Monterey update.
I am now upgrading to 12.2 but didn’t see any problem fix before.

You mean to 12.1? 12.0.1 was the prior and first public release of Monterey
