MacBook Pro M1 chip 16 inch

I am new to Mac. So new that I’ve never use the Mac always used windows. Anyway I connected my MacBook Pro M1 chip to my receiver so I can listen to music via HDMI cable. I set everything so that the AV receiver was the default player. However it keeps switching back between AV receiver and the MacBook Pro speakers. I tested the cable once again with my windows laptop and it works just fine. Does anybody know why this is happening? Please let me know.

The headphone/audio-out jack on the new MacBook Pro with M1 Pro and M1 Max chips is a new type that adapts to high-impedance headphones, regular impedance headphone, or line-level directly.

Well an update. Everything works today. HDMI cable works just fine through my AV receiver and it’s not switching back-and-forth between different audio players. I also have my DAC plugged in which works and I also am able to listen through the MacBook Pro speakers. I can easily switch back-and-forth and choose whichever option without there being any glitches. So perhaps it was a glitch I don’t know. But so far pretty happy being a new Mac person. Thanks for all the suggestions.

Well it is happening again. I plug in my HDMI cable and it switches back-and-forth between different output modes. I have no idea what’s going on but it’s pretty frustrating. You would think that this MacBook Pro with the M1 chip would be able to handle this. So there’s obviously a glitch. Does anyone else have this issue or know anything about it or how to correct it? Please let me know.

Thank you

The last update that I posted wasn’t actually correct.

So I finally figured out why my MacBook Pro laptop kept switching between outputs when I had it plugged into my receiver with an HDMI cable. It turns out sometimes I like to have the roku TV on with no sound which is plugged into my receiver via arc HDMI output. That tweaks the laptop. Solution is to unplug the arc hdmi and have my tv audio not go through my receiver when using my laptop to listen to music. That was a lot of problem-solving.
