Ipad return key not working properly

I think they have fixed the issue, just today i updated just the apps and the enter key is now working as the send button for both fb messenger and viber.

I confirm this problem.

Pressing return produces new line on Messenger and Viber on my iPad Pro M1.

On Microsoft Teams it works properly, it sends the message.

This is happening on iPadOS 15.1 and it was happening on 15.0.2 also.

Using Apple Smart Keyboard Folio.

Bought the keyboard folio to respond fast to messages, and now I'm slow again because I have to pause my typing to hit the send button of the app, which usually is below the keyboard panel that docks on the bottom right! Highly frustrating....

I just updated 2 days ago, and I’m seeing a conflict in my apps more than the keyboard. With Facebook Messenger app, using my “enter” key on my external keyboard, I get the next line/paragraph function. With the Messages app, I get the “send” function. I’m seeing most of the issues with the update to 15.1 seem to be affecting non-Apple apps, such as Facebook, facebook Messenger, yahoo mail, I’ve even had issues in google. I hate to say this, but with several trial & error attempts I have some issues working, but others aren’t. Basically, i’m trying to troubleshoot my issues with a lot of help from the Apple Community (which have been great!).

Confirming this problem as well. Just started last week on both the Gmail and google chat apps. Messages still seemingly works fine. Latest version of both ipad OS and the apps as well. Needs to be solved ASAP!!!

EDIT: Google chat is now working again, however the chat function in the gmail app still has the problem

hi, were you able to resolve this issue? I just experienced it today… i can no longer use my”return” button on the magic keyboard to send messages on facebook messenger. instead it creates a new line. i still have to press the “send” arrow button on the screen to send messages, which slows me down greatly.

Same here. I’d really wish for this issue to be fixed. It’s frustrating to having to leave the keyboard to send the message and tap on the screen, or use the trackpad when the return key used to work as intended before.

This is absolutely the worst update thus far. I agree that I bought this keyboard to make my messaging (long with other things) more efficient. This has frustrated me tremendously. Does anyone know if any work around to allow my “return button” actually send my messages when I hit it?

Came looking if there was a mistake i made in some configuration… got the “worst confirmation” that it’s a problem not yet address, so unproductive! Why have a keyboard, if to type return I need to leave it and press on the screen!…

For many, the ability to fully compose a message - including the ability to break a message into multiple lines using the return key - is both intuitive and desirable. When a message has been fully composed and checked, using the Send button to transmit the message is desirable functionality.

Don’t forget, iMessage supports rich message content that goes far beyond the 160 text-character limit of SMS. Restricting the return key to sending messages alone, instead of inserting natural line-breaks, is a serious impediment to intended functionality.

If you don’t like the iMessage platform, perhaps consider an alternative - of which there are many in common use.

Apple do invite constructive comments and feature requests via their product feedback portal:

Alt+Enter is providing us with this functionality since forever.

Enter has always been the “validation” key. This is an international norm.

The only software category using enter like this are word processors.

Even spreadsheets are using Enter like this!

It WAS ok and now it’s not.

iMessage is doing it.

Telegram has an option to change this behaviour.

This choice should be in the OS, not application-dependent.

yeah me too, I’m also experiencing this more than 1 hour now. it is so frustrating, i even reset my ipad pro m1 and problem still persist

Same issue! I thought this was an iPad magic keyboard issue until I tried placing my iPad on another one at the apple store. Same issue still occurs.

Nope. There’s so many issues with this update. Getting very frustrating.

would it be possible then to go back to the previous system, before the update? so it will go back to the way it used to be…?

I don’t believe that’s an option.
