Stuck on install, Big Sur to Monterey, iMac

Hi! My iMac is stuck trying to install Monterey at restart. The status bar fills, screen goes black, then the status bar starts up again. It gives a "time remaining" update with each bar. It's been going for bout an hour. Advice?

Suggestion - power down by any means including the Power Botton.

Disconnect all external devices

Connect to Charger if a laptop

Power up in Safe Mode . This mode will do a Repair Disk, clear cache files and only load Apple Software, extensions and fonts, so the loading will be slow - normal.

It may or may not allow the upgrade process to complete and hopefully successfully.
