Compressor error: System Error = -9074 {Unknown Error: -9074}

After updating to Monterey last week, one of our iMac Pros gives us this error when sending a job from Final Cut to Compressor:

We have trashed the Compressor prefs in Library/App Support, reinstalled Compressor and even reinstalled the OS, still same issue. We also granted full disk access to Compressor in System Prefs/Security, still same issue. Any help appreciated.

So I did another research today:

Installed macOS from scratch on external SSD.

Installed FCPX and Compressor.

Created project in FCPX in Wide Color Gamut mode.

Imported short clip

Added built-in title

Send the one to Compressor

Loading Preview in Compressor-FAILED!

Considering all info in this discussion, I do believe, it's a Compressor software issue with strong connection to specific hardware like graphics: AMD Radeons, in my case, Vega 20 4GB. Because rendering in FCPX works perfectly for 100%.

Thought I'd join, since I'm having the same error. I don't think I have been able to send anything to compressor since updating to Monterey. Did a fresh format last night, installed Final Cut then Compressor. Nothing else. Put together a short 7 minutes movie made out of 5 clips. Picture with title at the beginning and the end. Sent to compressor, and got 9074 error after a couple of minutes. Everything was default, placement of library etc. The clips were moved to MacBook HD, no external devices during render.

After first fail - gave final cut and compressor full disk access. Same error. Then I tried to render in Final Cut using Compressor settings, perfect render.

Mmm, strangely export of Rec 2020 HLG to 4K HDR with titles worked for me once just after update to Monterey 12.1 (as reported in this thread). But now it does not work anymore, all projects with titles fail to export, resulting in same System Error = -9074 {Unknown Error: -9074} after around 4-5 minutes. How do we know Apple is aware of the issue and will they bring out a Compressor patch to resolve?

I've had this issue with Compressor since installing Monterey. generating a 9074 I usually operate the FCPX library files from an external drive and have had no problems with other Operating systems. The current FCPX library file i'm using is circa 250gb stored on a Lacie external drive with over 2trb of available memory. I've tried all the reported compressor fixes without success except reinstalling Compressor of FCPX. Until there is an Apple update I get round this issue by using the FCP X share file facility and for 4K videos share as { Apple devices 4K... } This generates an .m4v file successfully which plays back perfectly on the iMac. I then import this file into Compressor which then converts to any other file format listed without problems. I have an iMac Pro ( 2017). Any suggestion welcome.

Let me remind you that I was amongst the first ones to point out this problem, as soon as Monterey came out.

I am currently using FCPX to export the video’s but this is indeed far from being ideal.

I am not used to Apple waiting about 2 months to solve a problem which makes a major app like Compressor completely unusable.

what do you need as information from us to figure out where Compressor is failing?

I think only pro apps support and engineering have the resources to work this out. It’s possible this is not fixable without a change to the OS (if this problem does not reproduce in Big Sur also). If you have a spare SSD I might suggest installing the public beta on it and seeing if the problem reproduces on a clean version of the next update.

Only just picked up on this group so missed the earlier post regarding this issue. As to where or why Compressor fails is difficult to ascertain. With Monterey Compressor fails to load the Project prior to commencing batch operation. In the video edit I do use a mix of clips from various sources including stills and use plug-ins for effects eg stabilisation with Lock and load and Motion titles none of which caused problems with Big Sur. I'll try a basic edit on a single video format without applying plug-in effects to eliminate potential sources of failure.

Tom - Following on my previous post I've now experimented using Compressor with a short 4K clip (circa 10 secs). The basic project (no effects applied) loads fine into compressor for batch conversion. When the stabilisation effect is applied direct from FCPX menu the project also loads into Compressor. However, applying a plug-in (Lock and Load Stabilisation) to the basic clip the project will not load into Compressor and the systems error is given. Compressor also failed when a title was added to the basic clip. Hope this helps to narrow down the issue and wonder how best to feed this back to Apple

I don't know if the problem is linked to some plugins or effects.

I discovered the problem immediately after having upgraded to Monterey.

I use to make films (in HD) varying from 2 or 3 minutes to 20-30 minutes.

I publish all the films I make in 3 languages. The videos are edited from more than 90 % stills (with animation through among others Ken Burns effects and distortion to make them look mor life. All films have music and spoken comment added.

The comments are in 3 languages, and I use Audio and Video roles for this. All but some titles and spoken comments are the same in the 3 versions.

When a film is ready, I first select all role in French. I publish the film. Then I do the same with English and Dutch.

What happened in the begin: the first published video is OK.

The others are failing.

I don't know if ist is still the same (I don't try it anymore as long I don't see a new version appearing, it is too frustrating).

Again, the 3 versions are exactly the same, except that other roles are activated.

I've just had the same issue after updating to Monterey, FCPX 10.6.1 & Compressor 6. I can send to encode if I remove all transitions but cross dissolve and any generators (have not tested all of them). I've sent a feedback as well. I'm using the "Send from FCP" method (Thanks Tom, for the millionth time you have saved a community from turning too pitchforks) to get by.

But I really want Compressor back sooner than later due to workflow. My question is how hard or plausible is it to roll back to Compressor 5.4.5? I don't have time machine nor did I back up my machine.

Same problem here with iMac 27 inch 2020 with 64GB RAM. Everything works fine if I send my project to Compressor after removing titles.

I am also having another problem which may or may not be related. When I import video into FCP my memory gets chewed up slowly and progressively until I finally get a warning that the available memory is too low to continue using the computer.
