How has it been determined the Install SSD is totally broken ?

It may be possible to Install Big Sur to an external drive and run the operating system from it. But, the MBA M1 was only released in November 2020 and the internal Drive should not be 100% dead or does on really mean - the Internal Drive is 100 % FULL.
