My embed icon is missing from my share icons on Safari

Hi Jim,

I tried the Hot Club of Cowtown's video on a Mac and on an iPad: both showed the embed option under sharing.

Just to be sure, I checked with and without being logged in YouTube, with two different browsers (Safari and Firefox) and even with different IPs (through a VPN). I always got the embed button.

Only on iPhone the embed option isn't available (in Safari): actually, on iPhone the whole sharing option is limited if compared to iPad or Mac versions – there're way less options available and I think it's expected to be somehow simplified on smartphones.

I really don't understand why it doesn't work on your side. I guess the embed sharing is regularly enabled from the video's owner.

Do you have a desktop or another device? Does it work there? Just to try to narrow down the possible cause.

To me, even the video you shared is about created contents. The whole YouTube Studio thing is of course about creators, not regular viewers.

Do you get the missing embed option everywhere or only on specific videos? If you get only on specific videos, then it's a creator's choice (the owner).

Could you provide a YouTube link of a real video that doesn't provide the embed sharing option?

That's a specific YouTube feature. It shouldn't be related to Safari.

Besides, here with Safari 15.1, YouTube sharing button shows correctly then embed option.

Maybe it's really something related to the 14.8 version. Have you tried with a different browser?

I'm running out of ideas.

I assume you've already tried to load YouTube in a private browser session to check if it works.

On internet I've found an old thread addressing a similar issue. In this case the browser is Opera (desktop, by the way) and the missing icon is another one. Still, it's curious to observe how for some users it works and for others is impossible to get the icon:

Speaking of YouTube Studio or whatever it was called: does it mean that you get the sharing button issue only when you are logged in Google (YouTube) account. If the share button works regularly when logged out, then it's a YouTube issue and not related to Safari.

I haven't personally a YouTube account. The test I made so far were without being logged in.

I tried with an account (not mine) and I get YouTube Studio.

The "_popup" full screen "trick" explained in the video works here, both on Mac and iPad.

Sure, on iPad it's less convenient to modify the address because the touch screen is sometimes harder to use if compared with a regular physical keyboard.

A neat feature that iPadOS/iOS offer when interacting with text (like an internet address) is that by holding the space "key" pressed and moving the finger left-right makes the cursor move accordingly. In this way it's easier to reach a specific word or character in a text string.

I hope your son can assist you. Likewise I hope that the total reset extreme solution isn't necessary.
