Contacts keep spontaneously unlinking

I'm trying to clean up my contacts and have begun linking duplicates from my various address books (iCloud, Google, etc.). Some have linked no problem. But a lot of them will spontaneously unlink - either moments after I've linked them, or when I reopen Contacts after some time. Why is this happening? Any solutions?

Hello mbauss,

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. We've reviewed your question and it looks like you’re running into issues with iCloud Contacts duplicating and not saving changes made. It's understandable that you'd want this resolved, so allow us to assist with that. Please start by taking a look here: If you see duplicate contacts after setting up iCloud Contacts. Make sure you are following these steps to remove the duplicates.

Also, as with other unexpected behavior on your Mac, make sure that you close and re-open the program you’re using, update the macOS fully and restart the computer as that can help resolve some odd behaviors.

If you have follow-up questions, please let us know. We're here for you. Have a fantastic day!
