Xcode not updating

My MacBook Pro 15-inch, 2016, Monterey (v12.0.1) Available Space: 40Gb yet Xcode (size: 12.4gb) not updating due to "insufficient space". What's the cause and how to solve it?

The cause of your problem is you don't have enough disk space. The 12.4 GB you're downloading is a compressed file. You need enough space to temporarily store both the compressed and the expanded file. You need 4-5 times the space of the download, which means you need 50-62 GB of free space.


To solve your problem, free up more disk space. Another workaround is to download Xcode from Apple's developer site on an external drive and expand it on the external. Refer to the following article for additional information:
