Dual Monitor Setup crashing Monterey

After updating to Monterey, I'm having this issue where after connecting my second external monitor, it freezes and crashes my matchbook pro 16' 2019. Is there a fix for it?

I have two LG 4K monitors and my MacBook Pro config is

64GB RAM

intel i9

Radeon Pro 5500 8GB

Here's the error details

Yes, I disabled automatic graphic switching but it didn't help.

I contacted Apple support, they are investigating it further but during the call, they asked me to delete this file "com.apple.windowserver.plist" which didn't help in my case but might help someone else.

But I also figured out a workaround by using a USB c to HDMI video adapter from cable matters fixed the issue for me.

also, they suggested buying a new USB to HDMI connector which I will be receiving today, and will post here if that fixes

it.

start with the link below, and press through the 'read this article' recommendations, and insist you have a Hardware issue. Call the first responders at Apple and work with them for a while. They will follow a script, akin to "are you sure it is plugged in?" work with them, then Politely Insist that they escalate your issue to a specialist (Remember that have no respect for these forums, but will use stuff posted here if needed).

so is this fair:

System had been trouble-free for more than a year. The software update caused kernel panics. Swapping stuff around and changing settings and fiddling with everything did not seem to completely resolve the problem, until Changing to different adapters got it working, without changing the software or settings.

If that seems right, what is different/distinctive between new and old adapters?

the smk seems light on details about exactly what HDMI version it supports (4K but at what refresh rate?)

the amazon states 4K @ 60Hz, which is a later edition of HDMI, version 2.0.

But why should that crash the Mac? (rhetorical)

That's the thing, I wish I knew!

The monitors are identical.

Bought at the same time. SNs are at most few numbers off.

Firmware on them the same.

I am using them in the native 4K rez and with same zoom factor (~200%? I think). I am running them at 60hz, their max rate

The monitors are connected by https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=2529 at 15' length, bought at the same time.

I went a bit long on the cables since they have to go from the machine under the desk through one hole then up and over through another two holes for each monitor. I probably could have gotten away with 10' but oh well.

The only thing I haven't tried is swapping the cables between the monitors, due to aforementioned pain in the behind with routing them under my desk. I could be persuaded to do it through

I want to stress that this all worked from day one of this machine on this corporate macbook using the OS that was one before Big Sur, then on Big Sur, and is now reliably broken. Seems honestly like a driver issue.

Happy to provide dumps, even remote debugging. What I don't want to do is invest into different cables which is what my IT suggests, stretching out there.

Hmmm. My interpretation of what failed is different.

A known-good system worked just fine in one configuration for > 1 year.

After OS upgrade, known-good configuration became no good due to to some portion of this configuration (cables? refresh rate?) not being liked. Why? Don't know. Seems software related.

Fixing it required quite a bit of hassle and replacement of what was good cabling to get back to work.

Seems like a bad OS experience but I am glad I figured it out

I have a 2019 MBP with 64GB and have never seen the beach ball of death or complete freezes before Monterey. As mentioned, the problem appears at EVERY Zoom Desktop or Google Meet call in the browser and also YouTube videos. It gets worse with two external monitors attached but happens less often with the MacBook solo.

It also sometimes freezes when typing in forms, just like I'm doing now and uploading files in Slack, but not that often as in the video calls.

I will wait a few weeks before going back to Big Sur because it's been a hassle since I'm fully remote now.
