Error installing update

update to iOS 15.1 gets stuck at the verification stage and prompts that an error has occurred. I’ve tried multiple times and this update is eating 6GB of storage.

Hello Vinci2Cold,

Thank you for participating in the Apple Support Communities! We see that updating your iPhone to iOS 15.1 fails with an error. You've come to the right place for help.

Let's start by removing the update file and downloading it again:

If your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch won’t update - Apple Support

"Remove and download the update again

If you still can't install the latest version of iOS or iPadOS, try downloading the update again:

  1. Go to Settings > General > [Device name] Storage.
  2. Find the update in the list of apps.
  3. Tap the update, then tap Delete Update.
  4. Go to Settings > General > Software Update and download the latest update.

If you don’t see the update in the list of apps or if the issue happens again, you need to update your device with your computer using Finder or iTunes."

If you have an iPhone 12 or newer, you can turn on Allow More Data on 5G to update iOS using cellular data with a supported carrier and plan. On earlier models of iPhone, you'll want to be sure to connect to a reliable Wi-Fi network when updating iOS:

Use 5G with your iPhone - Apple Support

Take care.
