Based on what you're describing, it sounds like you may want to have your AirPods inspected in person. We can't necessarily say for sure if there is a potential hardware issue but looking at them in person is going to say for sure. Depending on where you're located, you may be able to bring them into an Apple Retail Store, an Apple Authorized Service Provider or an Apple Authorized Distributor. We would not recommend going to an unauthorized third-party location.
