Apple Photos 7.0

Why does Photos need an Internet connection to print a contact sheet from photos that have never been anywhere near the internet? They were captured and processed on my MacPro. Other, admittedly smaller albums, "printed" just fine, but even if I split this album into smaller lots, it insists it needs an internet connection. For what? (This message brought to you by the same Internet it claims is missing!!)

Do you, or have you ever used iCloud photos with "optimise mac storage" selected?

If so it is trying to download the full size originals from iCoud. It may be blocked if you are running any third party vpn or firewall software.

If you have not, then possibly photos has lost access to the original files in some other way.

Try this: boot into Safe Mode according to Start up your Mac in safe mode - Apple Support and test to see if the problem persists. Reboot normally and test again.

NOTE: Safe Mode boot can take up to 3 - 5 minutes as it's doing the following;

• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed

• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)

• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically

• Disables user-installed fonts

• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

Thanks. I had re-booted in Safe Mode a couple of times with no effect. Similarly I have run the "Repair" routine on my Photos library, but this morning I managed to isolate the problem. There are images in my library that cannot for some reason be edited, and are incorrectly oriented. If I deselect these images, the contact sheet prints just fine — 225 images on 19 pages. The issue of the "missing" image data is obviously a separate problem.
