In addition: if you have set your cursor in color (in System Preferences->Accessibility->Displays), reset it.

There is a known bug that causes a memory leak when the cursor is in color.

In System Preferences > Accessibility > Display > Pointer

Even though after experimenting with the pointer options I had set the pointer to the original size and colours were set to default ones I had to actually reset them with the button. This seems to work as a solution for this exact problem.

'Universalaccessd' has now settled to using around 7~mb of memory.

Unfortunately this has not solved the bigger problem with Firefox potentially showing erratic behavior with memory usage.

Does this bug relate to background process called ’universalaccessd’?

The process in question has a tendency to grow its memory usage every time the computer wakes up from sleep (+200~Mb) to ridiculous proportions (10-12Gb) until the computer is restarted. I did some tweaking with my pointer couple days ago, but thought that I already reset and unchecked these options. But the process still keeps growing and growing…

I have late 2020 M1 MBA and upgraded the OS to Monterey couple days ago.

Maybe. I have put my mac to sleep several times in the last few days (I do not shut it down daily), and this process is only using 11.3 MB, so nothing of concern. But then I am not using a colored cursor.
