How to transfer everything from old phone with existing external email Apple ID to new phone using an existing icloud Apple ID

Was using wife’s Apple ID for old phone. Then I had my own iCloud Apple ID when I bought ipad. How do I transfer everything from old phone to new phone and tie it with my own Apple ID?

Tried changing to new ID but it says can only add the iCloud.com address that is already on file in your account.
