The weird thing is , it seemed to detect my apple tv as an iphone. I have switcheed a number of usb micro cables withou success

Hi albram, thanks for the detailed instructions. I will try again. How did you manage to solve thia issue which you mentioned earlier? What have you done? Change the wire?

"but "Batch activation" button not active. If I push "Batch activation" button then "Please connect iDevice to PC using the USB cable"

Same here. AirPlay disappeared after update and it says that activation failed. Have tried reinstalling it numerous of times, with no luck.

Same problem, I can purchase, its is connected with my iTunes and Apple ID, AppleTV+ works just fine, but cannot screen mirror to it and it General > About, Activation is Failed

Thanks for the detailed instructions, even though I was using Mac Book to activate my Apple TV 3. The steps from 1-4 are the important steps. Otherwise, we never got to see the Activate option as the Apple TV stays as Recovery state forever (the Led light on Apple TV box never got to solid light).

After the Activation finished the option just disappears, I never got the successful confirmation.

I just unplugged it from my MacBook and tried Air play. It worked.

Thanks gagan, when I was searching this was the only option that worked, unfortunately there was no mention any where about the solution you proposed, but, thank you that will help the next set of people who face the same issue. 👍

Thanks a lot for this solution, I have four AppleTV's and they all went down after the last update. Been looking for a solution for one month! Apple support is a joke, they have no useful input whatsoever except for "wait for an update, we are aware of the problem". Luckily there are users like you that know better.

Bought a used 3rd gen to use in a guestroom today, have another 3rd gen that works perfectly on the same network. Connected to network no problem, paired iPhone as remote not problem put could not airplay even after following all the recommended procedures from Apple ;

I am also having the same issue. A family member had a brand new one in the box, gave to me.

Soon as I updated to the latest, I noticed that in the Info sections it saying Activation Failed.

Hello! I have the same problem, after update of apple tv it goes down to activation failed. After 8 full resets either recovering through DFU mode and “iTunes” nothing changed

Could i check, what did you meant when you mention you leave the apple tv on overnight? Was your TV monitor on too?
