Finder Divider

I have been enjoying the divider where I can drag the column wider and narrow on the Finder App. But today I am not sure what happen (maybe I press the wrong key combination or used a corded mouse?) then the column divider became the thick divider with the || and the bottom for me to widen and narrow the column.

I saw someone posted but I cannot find the appropriate setting in system preference. I tried Finder preference but was still unable to return to the 'thin' divider where I can drag anywhere on it to widen the column.

Sorry the lengthy description.

You can try relaunching the Finder on the fly...

>Force Quit>Finder>Relaunch

Finder is not responding: How to restart Finder on Mac

To trouble shoot further you can:

—Try a SafeBoot https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201262

Takes noticeable longer to get to the login screen, does a 5 minute disk repair before it fully boots up, and certain system caches get cleared and rebuilt, including dynamic loader cache, etc.

Login and test. Reboot as normal and test. Caches get rebuilt automatically.

In Safe mode third party system modifications and system accelerations are disabled, it removes malware, etc hampering smooth operation, however a reboot will put it back to normal mode.

This test will tell you if third party interference; extensions etc are not loaded in safe boot mode.

—Test issue in another user (or guest user) account https://support.apple.com/guide/mac-help/set-up-other-users-on-your-mac-mtusr001/mac

This will tell you if it a universal issue or isolated to your user/admin account.

Uninstall all third party apps that are Cleaners/Optimizers/VPN/Anti-Virus

I suspect I have discovered a "secret" to this unique Finder app behaviour. This is caused by using a USB mouse (non-Apple). As my Magic mouse refuse to work (even I replaced brand new battery), I look for my 'backup' mouse.

Now that I remove the non-Magic mouse, working on the track pad, the Finder divider is back to the normal thin line pattern.

Strange but Apple always surprise their users.
