Thank you taking the time to post the Report.

The Biggest Issue, as I see it, is the Mechanical 5400 RPM Internal Drive. This may have been good in older versions of macOS but one reaching Catalina and above - it will be a real bottleneck to performance.

Alternative to getting some real performance, get a Reliable External SSD Drive and use that Drive to install Monterey onto it.

Then set the External SSD Drive as your Startup Drive.

Perhaps a more in-depth look at the relationship between computer and the installed software. For that purposes >>>

Suggest downloading the Application Etrecheck directly from a well Respected ASC Contributor.

The application is free or paid from added features.

Run the application with Full Disc Access ( Security & Privacy - Full Disc Access ).

It will take a Snap Shot -  both the hardware and software.

Thanks P. Phillips,

I appreciate you taking the time to answer my question. Going back through my previous posts and questions, it would seem I have been given the same advice before. I did purchase a G Drive USB-C 2TB hard drive and was directed to this article https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-250003583 Now I just need to do the work of setting it up. No excuses, but it does seem strange that Apple would ship an iMac with a hard drive with insufficient speed to run it properly. Oh well, I shall install the external hard drive as soon as I have time to concentrate on the task.

Thanks again,

Ren

Hi, Thanks for your response. The iMac is taking 2-3 minutes to wake up in the morning. Browsers are extremely slow, most apps, like Mac Mail are also slowed down to unacceptable levels.

This is a 2019 Retina 4K, with 16 GB memory and 3.2 GHz 6 core processor. It has 1TB storage with 780 GB free.

There's no reason I can see that this iMac should be so adversely effected by Monterey - all this happened immediately after I updated.
