Movies with no audio fail to sync to iPad

I noticed that all my silent movies fail to sync to an iPad with an error like:

Even a timelapse from an iPad fails to sync back to the same iPad. Also other silent H.264/265 .mp4, m4v and .mov files fail to sync.

I think this has started during the last few months. Has anyone else noticed this?

My setup: Mac mini 2018, Big Sur 11.6.1, iPad Pro MLQ62KN/A 9,7", iOS 15.1. I use Image Capture to import files from the iPad, then import them to Photos.app local system library, then open a Finder window and via the Photos tab sync to the iPad.

Hello Matti,

From your post it appears you are having an issue playing some movies on your iPad.

It would be interesting to test and see if you transfer the movie using a different method if you continue to have that issue. For example, if you set up iCloud Photos and allowed the movies to sync between devices, will the iPad play it? Set up and use iCloud Photos - Apple Support

Do the movies play if you AirDrop them to the AirPad? How to use AirDrop on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

This test would help to identify where the issue is.

Cheers.
