Invalid phone number when creating iCloud account for child

Hi, I'm setting up an iCloud account for my child and have completed all step up until it comes to confirming the mobile phone number to receive notifications to when my child uses iCloud. See the error below, which says my number is invalid - however it's not invalid as I have used it with iCloud myself for a while.

Anyone else faced this and found a solution please?
