Well, as far as I'm aware screen saver does continue to work.

Can you describe the problem(s) you're having with it?

Meanwhile, if rebooting your Mac doesn’t fix things, see if the problem still happens in Safe mode (hold the shift key down at startup). It can take much longer to safe boot (10 min) so be patient.

How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support

Safe mode forces the OS to clear certain caches and logs and do other miscellaneous housekeeping. It's non-destructive to user data so is safe to do. Very often certain weird software behavior is corrected by simply logging in this way as a troubleshooting method. When you're in safe boot, the machine will not be at its best performance, especially with graphics, but that's expected.

Does the problem persist while in Safe mode?

Exit safe mode by restarting your Mac normally and re-evaluate the issue again.

If the problem is still unresolved, please return here and post a reply and we’ll see what else we can come up with for help.

Are your pics in albums in the Photos app library, or tucked away in their own folders elsewhere?

You have attempted to locate them from the screen saver browser?

remember, only certain of the selectable screen savers use pictures that you can choose.

So not understanding why you can't select your photos for use in the screen saver, but here are links to a couple article that might be helpful.

So, delete the Admins you don't need. They are created for troubleshooting purposes. Only one was to be created.

What is this "something" you speak of?

Try the Following:

A. Boot Up in Safe Mode:

[Hold Down: the shift key upon boot]. In Said Mode, login items do not open at login, certain System Preferences are set aside, and damaged system files(i.e. caches) are intentionally fixed. So, once logged in to Safe Mode, restart after 30 seconds, and this try this once more. Point Being: Caches are getting in the way, and Safe Mode clears the caches.

B. New Admin User:

Try creating a new Administrator user, seeing if you can then install an update or new OS.
