Software update fail

Hi.

I'm on a 5th generation ipad trying to update to os 15.1

It downloads the update no problem but I get an error message that it was unable to verify the update because i'm not connected to the internet - eventhough i've got a strong connection.

What I've tried so far:

  1. deleting and redowlnloading the update
  2. reseting my connections
  3. updating via my mac

All with no luck.

Any recommendations would be appreciated :0)

Thanks, Avi

If your iPad is capable of being updated to a more recent version of iOS/iPadOS than is currently installed, these support pages outline both the available methods by which the update can be performed - and troubleshooting should you experience difficulties:

Update your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch – Apple Support

If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch – Apple Support

If your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch won’t update - Apple Support

iOS update and restore errors – Apple Support

If you continue to experience difficulties with direct update from iPad Settings, you may have more success if you perform the update using a PC or Mac computer. To do so you will need access to either a PC (with iTunes installed) or a Mac (with iTunes or Finder - as appropriate for the installed version of MacOS). Ensure that your installed version of iTunes has been updated to the most recent version; the essential device drivers are included.

Download and use iTunes for Windows – Apple Support

Update to the latest version of iTunes – Apple Support

Update software on iPhone, iPad or iPod touch in iTunes on PC - Apple Support

You should note that for your iPad to install an available update, its battery must be charged to at least 50% capacity - and/or be connected to its Power Adapter. Similarly, the iPad can only be updated over a standard WiFi connection - or be updated by a PC or Mac using iTunes or Finder - over a USB connection.

Perhaps your WiFi router is unexpectedly blocking access to some internet resources or servers - this is not uncommon with NAT routers. So as to eliminate this as possible cause, the router should be restarted.

To restart your router, disconnect power from the router for at least 30 seconds - then reconnect power to restart. After your router reboots (which may take several minutes), force restart your iPad as before:

  • On an iPad with a Home button: Press and hold the top button and the Home button at the same time. When the Apple logo appears, release both buttons.
  • On an iPad with Face ID: Press and quickly release the volume up button, press and quickly release the volume down button, then press and hold the top button. When the Apple logo appears, release the button.

The IPAD was charged to 100%. It was working on OS 14. The internet connection is solid - I used it to update other devices and to download the update to this one.

I restored to factory settings and tried updating via itunes on my PC.

I continue getting the error "activation server could not be reached", even when connected to my PC.

I'm at whits end. What is left for me to try?

Many thanks.
