Finder constantly freezing on new iMac Apple M1

I have a brand new iMac with the Apple M1 Chip and plenty of memory (16 GB), yet Finder just keeps randomly freezing while performing the simplest tasks, like drag-and-dropping a file into Photoshop, saving a file or copying files. Sometimes it “unfreezes” by itself, but it takes anywhere between 10 seconds and 2 minutes. Sometimes it doesn’t. After relaunching Finder with Force Quit, it completely disappears from the doc and launchpad and can only be brought back by restarting the computer. Can this be fixed please? It’s costing a lot of time and is obviously very frustrating for such an expensive machine.

Other than not having a backup (if that is correct that is a HUGE mistake and needs to be fixed ASAP) I don't see any of the usual suspects.


The first thing I would recommend is attempting a restarting Safe Mode per the directions in Safe Mode Reset and then restart normally and re-test. If that does not help, then I'd reinstall Mac OS however NEVER do this without a complete backup of your entire computer!!!!

Please navigate to www.Etrecheck.com and download the free version of EtreCheck. Once you have you downloaded the app and installed it, please run the report and save it.
