iphone amazon.com, amazon app not working

Just today my iPhone 12 pro max (happened on iOS 14.8 and ios 15) decided to stop giving me access to amazon, both the website and app. Safari gives tells me it can't open the page because it can't establish a secure connection to the server. the amazon app just says something went wrong. Chrome says this site can't provide a secure connection.

My iPad, my wife's iPhone X, all of our Mac's can access amazon just fine. I have tried rebooting the iPhone, changing the DNS settings, checked time and date, all to no avail.

Anyone have any ideas, short of wiping the iPhone and reinstalling?

Thanks for any help.

So I finally figured out a solution.

I got a brand new iPhone 13 today, and no Amazon app worked still. Was very frustrated. But then it occurred to me that it could be the VPN. All the Amazon apps on my way old iPad have been working this entire time. But I do not have the VPN turned on my iPad.

So I tried to switch off my VPN phone on my phone. However the VPN will automatically switch back on even if you try to switch it off. So what you have to do is: Go to settings>general> and scroll down until you see a separate VPN setting. Choose the VPN you have, go it’s settings by pressing the info/“i” button and switch off “connect on demand”. This will turn off the VPN and it won’t automatically switch on again.

after I did that, all the Amazon apps worked again! Had to re-sign in, but they work now.

the frustrating thing is, I was able to have my VPN turned on and all the Amazon apps worked perfectly fine in the past. Not sure why the VPN would stop Amazon apps from working, but not effect any other apps??? Maybe the Amazon apps aren’t working well with iOS 15? It all makes no sense to me, but maybe this solution will work for others.

Biggest downside of course is losing the privacy and protection you get with a VPN. So it may not be ideal for those who want a VPN on their phone. Though it could also be the third party VPN I have. I guess I could just delete it and see if I can switch the VPN back on and have the Amazon apps still work…

But if others don’t use a VPN on their phone then this might not help at all!

frito_bandito,

Understood, thank you for trying out those troubleshooting steps.

Do you have any Content & Privacy Restrictions set up on this iPhone and are any profiles or mobile device management installed?

It is only amazon I am having the issue with not responding on either safari or the app. My ipad and PC will open amazon but not my IPHONE. This started on Sunday morning. I do have the latest version of Iphone and Amazon.

Also if the VPN keeps turning itself back on even if you turned it off under Settings. follow these instructions: go to Settings > General > VPN & Devise Management > VPN > tap on your VPN provider and move button to the left to connect on demand. I kept turning the VPN off and within seconds it would turn itself back on unless you follow the instructions above.

Hi there frito_bandito,

We understand that a specific website and app are not working as expected on your iPhone only. We’d like to help however we can.

To confirm, does this also happen when connected to another Wi-Fi network or while connected to cellular data? Let’s follow the steps outlined here as well:

If an app on your iPhone or iPad stops responding, closes unexpectedly, or won’t open

Also, ensure your iPhone is fully updated.

Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Cheers!

I have the same problem. it works on my iphone SE, and my Macbook Air, but my wife's iphone 7 does not. It keeps saying "uh-oh, something went wrong on our end" but my other devices work fine, as does all other apps on her phone. I closed everything down, reset my network settings, and did a bunch of other things yesterday (not sure in what order, or exactly what) and it started working fine. Then today she went to use the app, and, of course it did NOT work again. This has to be a setting that Amazon sees, and decides that it is not secure so it shuts everything down; I, too tried a couple of different browsers to no avail. Help! My birthday's coming up and my wife needs amazon!!

I have had this issue with my iPhone Se(2020) for some time now. Every now and then, any Amazon associated app on my phone, will no longer work. The apps will be working perfectly one one day, then just stop working out of the blue. It's very random. The Amazon shopping app, music app, alexa, kindle, prime video. None of them will work any longer. And when I try to go to amazon.com on the Chrome or Safari app, it says "this site cannot be reached" The Amazon shopping app, I get the error message with the dogs saying "uh-oh something went wrong on our end" the music app, it won't load the home page, and says "Something went wrong, Please refresh the page to try again" but reloading the app does nothing

I've done what others here have already done. Nothing fixes the issue. Last week, I resorted to resetting all the settings on my phone. The Amazon apps still didn't work, but late on they did. Yet a couple days later, all the Amazon apps stopped working again. Having to reset the settings on my phone is such a pain, because I then have to go and change all my settings again, re-make all my alarms, and etc. So I'd rather not have to do that every time.

The apps act like they can't get a connection, which makes no sense. I'm not sure if this is an apple issue or an Amazon issue. The troubleshooting suggestions, which mainly include uninstalling and reinstalling the app haven't been helpful

It's just really frustrating. I drive a lot for my job and normally listen to music on the amazon music.
