iPhone 11 Max, on normal call, front camera light initializes (orange)

If I call someone or someone calls me, I see the orange light come on my front camera. As a security specialist and 35 years of software development with over 30 languages, I'm having a hard understand why. It doesn't take a long time to initialize the camera. We do it every time we go to take a picture or selfie. This makes me put a cover on the front, which is frustrating since that's the way I log into the phone via face recognition. Speaking of that, I notice that the light doesn't come on at all, when I'm logging into the phone via face recognition, so now the light is discredited. How do I know if this isn't on all the time? I know, I should just trust that apple doesn't have one person working for them, doing something with our video feeds they shouldn't. With all the data collection going on with every single person on the planet, I'm starting to believe I might have to go back to mobiles without cameras.

If you see orange or green indicators in the status bar

With iOS 14 and later, you might see an orange or green indicator in the status bar on your iPhone. These indicators appear when the microphone and/or camera are being used by an app.

  • An orange indicator  means the microphone is being used by an app on your iPhone.

  • A green indicator  means either the camera or the camera and the microphone are being used by an app on your iPhone.

If you're that experienced with software and security.. I'd think you'd do a touch of research before posting what you're posting.

When someone calls you, in order for the caller to hear you, the microphone is needed. That is what the orange dot means. It does not mean anything whatsoever about the camera. It's the microphone.

So if you are covering your camera because of the orange dot, you totally misunderstand what it represents.

You would also find with some quick research, as I did with about 2 minutes of it.. The front camera is not used for facial recognition. Therefore, why would the [green] indicator turn on.. when that indicator represents the camera being turned on? Nothing has been discredited.

If you really think Apple has the interest or time to capture all your video feeds along with the millions of other. iPhones out there, yes, you should just get rid of your smart phone.

The reason that these indicators exist is so that you can better protect your privacy.
