How do I make Excel the default spreadsheet and not numbers?
The answer below is a few years old and it does not work
Right click on file, pick get info and at the bottom pick app (Excel) to open with and also select do this for all. That will make Excel the default.

make it a login item and it will come on first. OR. Go to your spread sheets files. Open get info and change all of them to open only with Excel.
