ipad pro unresponsive screen

Is there any update on this problem please? I see the problem has been around for a while. I have only recently started having the intermittent delayed touchscreen response. Many thanks 2021

I don’t recall seeing reports of unresponsive screens with the fourth generation (2021) models of iPad Pro.

The only advice that I can readily offer is that you force-restart your iPad:

  • On an iPad with a Home button: Press and hold the top button and the Home button at the same time. When the Apple logo appears, release both buttons.
  • On other iPad models: Press and quickly release the volume up button, press and quickly release the volume down button, then press and hold the top button. When the Apple logo appears, release the button.

If the problem persists, as your iPad is within warranty, you would be well advised to seek assistance directly from from Apple Support.

You can contact the Support Team using the Get Support link at top-right of this page. Alternatively, you can initiate and manage your support cases using the excellent Apple Support App. If not already installed on your iPad, the App can be downloaded from the App Store:

The intermittent, unresponsive touchscreen issues with higher priced, larger screen iPad Pro and iPad Air models are a well known and well documented, here, in the iPad support communities.

This affects a still small, but continually growing minority of random 2017 through present iPad Pro and iPad Air models and its user base.

Now, after 3 years of this nonsense, there is still no confirmed cause and fix/solution from Apple.

NONE!

Getting one of these defective units is very random and is ONLY one of a small handful of issues going on with higher priced, larger screen iPad models that has prevented me from purchasing a new iPad Pro or new iPad Air for the past 2-3 years.

Apple and Apple support have no real fixes or solutions to this issue.

If you have a screen protector on this iPad Pro, remove it as the screen protector makes the touch screen and Pencil experiences worse.

Also, try removing your iPad's case ( it maybe too tight a fit ) and try using your iPad without it to see if this helps, or not, with your iPad touchscreen issue/s

There is absolutely no solution/s to these later iPad Pro/iPad Air touch screen issues.

Apple support can only offer superficial, “band-aid” bandage-like advice/fixes/solutions.

You can contact Apple support, but your iPad Pro/later iPad Air model maybe too old for Apple to offer any type of free or in-warranty iPad replacement and Apple will ONLY offer “band-aid“-like advice/fixes/solutions to this issue.

Apple support is pretty much clueless to this issue and Apple, itself, has never, publicly, acknowledged this issue or issued any type of device recalls.

This is something you probably didn't want to learn, but doesn't change any of the currently known facts.

So Sorry & Best of Luck to You!

This issue CAN and HAS affected all larger screen iPad Pro and Air models.

AND that is what my regular response her continues to iterate and convey.

What I am still surprised at is that this issue STILL has not yet affected the larger screen, base model 10.2 inch screens of all the 7th, 8th and, possibly, 9th gen iPad models.

That has been a really strange issue for me for the past 3 years, or so.

This intermittent, unresponsive iPad touch screen issue is still a very real thing that seems to just start occuring, at random, for no real, apparent cause or reason, to a still small, yet still growing minority of iPad Pro/Air users.

After 3 years, there is still no real causation or solution to this issue.

It still appears to happen in all of the more expensive iPad models and NOT with any of the lower priced iPad models.

Again NO real reason as to why this is continuing to happen.

I’ve had this issue with an iPad Pro 12.9” 2nd generation for a few years. Only “solution” offered was to pay $599 for a replacement, which I did, only to experience same problem again on”new” iPad Pro. No way Apple cannot be aware of an issue here. Extremely disappointing that they have chosen to avoid taking responsibility and/or offering a recall. I tell everyone or show them how incredibly frustrating it is to tap repeatedly on the screen with nothing happening. I’m sure I have cost them at least 5 iPad purchases. Imagine if they actually fixed problem or replaced my “lemon” for free and saved the 5+ missed sales. Pretty sure they would be ahead in $ terms. Multiply that by how many others have same issue and tell everyone…..Really disappointed in an otherwise great company!

Many thanks again for the replies. Richmo, did you notice any pattern like freezing when trying links to other sources/pages/sites etc?

And why now when the ipad has been fine for over 18months. Of course it is just out of guarantee! My feeling is that the updates are causing issues. An adviser was screen sharing, so witnessed it repeatedly even though we tried different browsers on one particular website.

I could swipe up and out of the browser and the ipad was ok. But then I was looking in Settings and the link to check serial number froze.

Is it ‘LINKS’?????

Apple advisor away for a week but escalated it to higher tec meanwhile, and phoning me on her return.

So for me, it is not an totally unresponsive screen but a freeze when performing some tasks with the ability to swipe out of that situation.

Who knows, this might help.

Take care.
