Sorry I don't know of a way to hold the QR code, or the link it provides, on the screen longer, for you to tap.
(Guess it would be great if the link would just activate automatically!)
Wondering if the same difficulty happens
- in the iPhone Camera,
- Rear Camera, and
- using the Code Scanner via Control Centre.
and whether one of those options will work better for you.
Eg: Apple's support article:

Says: Select the REAR facing camera
