Since the earlier 4k model can, I assume this one can also. I used an old Apple remote (which came with an older iMac) and got my Broadlink system to learn the codes: the controls are more limited than with the normal remote but you can do most things. Univeral remotes which come with preloaded codes may also be able to do this - I was able to some time back with my old One-for-All.

Of course if you have an iPhone there is an app to control the device.
