Target display mode

Can I use Target display mode with my 2011 Mac mini running patched Catalina and my 2008 iMac 24" running El Capitan?

Does Target Display Mode still work with Catalina? I have a 2011 iMac that I used to be able to use as a Target Display for my 2017 MacBook Air. The iMac is on High Sierra and the MacBook is now on Catalina. Target Display Mode is no longer working. Is this due to Catalina? The article here: Use your iMac as a display with Target Display Mode is unclearly worded. It says 'Target Display mode does not work with Catalina', but which computer are they referring to, the display one or the displayed one?

No. The 2008 24" iMac is not supported for this configuration.
