Numbers changes "OCT" to "October," but autocorrect is disabled. What is going on?

I want my cell to say "OCT", the exact characters I typed (not more, not less). How can I do this?

Any and all suggestions are appreciated.

I have disabled all of the following in Numbers:

Edit>Spelling and Grammar>Check Spelling While Typing

Edit>Spelling and Grammar>Check Grammar With Spelling

Edit>Spelling and Grammar>Correct Spelling Automatically

Edit>Substitutions>Smart Quotes

Edit>Substitutions>Smart Dashes

Edit>Substitutions>Smart Links

Edit>Substitutions>Text Replacement

, but Numbers still changes "OCT" to "October."

Additional troubleshooting:

I have tried Command+Z, but this erases all the text in the cell, which is not what I want.

I have tried right-clicking, but no "undo autocorrect" option seems to exist.

Lastly, technical info, in case that helps:

Numbers version 3.6.1 (2566)

Macbook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, mid-2015)

macOS Catalina version 10.15.5

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 10.15

Hi hdjsfbkajsdvkavsnbnioasfhasklj,

I suspect it's not autocorrect that's making the change. More likely is that the cell's data format is Automatic.

Numbers is recognizing OCT as a month name, and setting the cell's data format to Date and Time.

If that's the case, the actual content of the cell will be a Date and Time string for October 1, 2021 at 00:00:00 and the displayed value would be "October"

  • Click on the cell in question.
  • Click the Format button (top right)
  • Choose Cell
  • Change the Cell Data format from Automatic to Text.

Enter OCT
