Not receiving SMS on original sim while using an esim
what setting is needed for me to be able to continue to receive sms on my original sim (while I am using esim)

When you are using a Physical SIM and an eSIM then you have two separate phone numbers. You will get a SMS to whichever number the SMS message is sent to.
All your SMS and iMessages will be saved as they normally are. If you start a message with your physical SIM, then that entire conversation will be associated with that SIM. Same goes for the eSIM.
