Error iPad restore using Apple Configurator 2

I'm trying to restore a student's iPad. He said the iPad was in a restore-modus, just out of the blue. When I click restore in AC2, I get this message at step 4/4 (installing OS):

Unexpected device state 'Recovery' expected 'RestoreOS' (Probably caused by corruption or panic in the bundle's restored) [com.apple.MobileDevice.MobileRestore – 0xFAD (4013)]

Place the device in DFU (recovery) mode and reconnect to AC2. This should start the process again.
