New LG 49WL95C and MBP 16” (2019) - default resolution issues

Hi. I recently purchased the LG 49WL95C-WE . When I connect to my MacBook Pro 16” (2019) the “default” display comes up as 2560 x 720, instead of 5120 x 1440 (the monitor’s specs). I can scale to 5120x1440 but then other issues like blurry fonts come into play.

I known the Mac can easily support this resolution, so I am not sure why it defaults to this lower resolution. I have tried both USB-C and DP adapters and the same results. Currently using Monterey but have tried on another MacBook Air with same results.

I realize the issue with ultra-wide monitors is nothing new, but I was hoping this would work given the other comments I had seen.

as an FYI, I have tried switchResX, dummy monitor, the ruby script to change EDID, changing front smoothing options etc with no luck.

Hello Bedrock99,

We see you're having issues with regards to your external monitor's resolution. We'd be happy to help.

When connecting it via USB-C, are you using any adapters or hubs in the process? If so, does connecting it directly to the Mac help?

Which adapter are using when connecting via DisplayPort, and was it purchased from Apple or elsewhere?

It may also help to try an NVRAM reset of the Mac: Reset NVRAM or PRAM on your Mac

Cheers.
