Built in effects not working FCP 10.6

A few things:

1) Always when the application appears to not be working correctly, deleting preferences is worth a try. It is often all that is needed to fix weird problems.

To delete preferences, hold down command and option while starting FCP X and click Delete Preferences.

The application will start in a default state, and open an "Untitled" library. Reopen the library you were working on, set the preferences the way you like them, and try again.

2) Do you have Chrome installed on this machine.

Chrome and its keystone daemons are known to hog the system videotoolbox and cause massive problems with video applications like FCP.

Once you get rid of them, you need to trash FCP and download a new copy from the App Store.

Try dragging FCP to the trash and downloading a new copy from the App Store.

If that still fails, Please run Etrecheck and post its full report here. Use the "additional text" button and paste the report into the text box.

You replied to me, but I am not the OP.

I requested an Etrecheck report, so we could further help the OP, but there was no reply, so no idea what he did.

I suggest you start a new thread, post your situation in detail (which may or may not be related to what the OP experienced, even if it seems similar).

To save all of us time, if you do that, please also include your own Etrecheck report.
