When will macOS Big Sur reach its end of life?
I have a MacBook Air (13-inch, Early 2014) running Big Sur 11.6.1. I cannot update to Monterey. I'm wondering how much longer Big Sur will continue to receive security updates.

There's no reason you can't upgrade your 2014 MBA to Monterey. It will support that version of the system. All MBAs from mid 2013 and newer can run Monterey.
Are you having problems trying to install Monterey? You do need at least 50 GB of free space to upgrade, more is possible.
The last security update for macOS High Sierra was November, 2020. Mojave has been receiving regular security updates. If this trend continues, then macOS Big Sur should reach end of life in 2024.

Yes there is…
Check compatibility
macOS Monterey is compatible with the following computers. If your Mac isn't compatible, you might be able to install an old version of macOS instead.
MacBook introduced in 2016 or later
MacBook Air introduced in 2015 or later
MacBook Pro introduced in 2015 or later
Mac mini introduced in 2014 or later
iMac introduced in late 2015 or later
iMac Pro introduced in 2017 or later
Mac Pro introduced in 2013 or later
Apple generally considers products obsolete 7 years after they are last sold. They may continue some software updates following that time. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201624

Uhm, Monterey requires a 2015 MBA.
Just learned a valuable lesson: don't take anything on face value. MacTracker has this for 2013 and 2014 MBAs:
and the latest release is Monterey. I thought I'd received an update to the app after the public release of Monterey but must have been mistaken. The link "Latest release of macOS" gives you
As I said: don't take anything on face value. 😔
Your question has been answered. You can also continue to use that Mac with Big Sur until the hardware fails, though there will be opportunity costs in current security and application support.
Thank you. The link you provided was quite helpful.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Disregard. Looks like I was responding to myself.
Apple website says I would need a MacBook AirEarly 2015 or later. Software update in System Preferences says, "Your Mac is up to date - macOS Big Sur 11.6.1" I have 371.17 GB available.

Hiya Phil. When I was just here your post wasn't listed. That's the second time that's happened to me.
No worries. It happens. Sometimes it takes a while for posts to appear.
Not usually 30 mins. 😎
