HomePod “Weather for where?“

So I never used to get this “Weather for where?” question back from Siri on my HomePod when asking what the daily forecast or current outside temperature is. Was this feature change meant to be more inclusive of people who live in mobile homes, RVs, and fifth-wheels? Maybe we can get an option on the HomePod set up for “Mobile HomePod Mode” which will ALWAYS ask you where you are. What a great way to expand the HomePod target audience to encompass transient homeless vagrants who still want to enjoy the features of a HomePod, running on a portable power bank of course…

Not sure what your question is.

To provide weather it does need a location, so preferably there could be an option where it only needs your city and not a street address. The street address is part of the system for Find My (other devices tied into the Apple ID) and to run HomeKit smart devices, which was its intended use besides listening to music. It’s a bit complicated because it requires sign in with an Apple ID - payment methods need a billing address and 2FA needs a location to “Allow” logins on other devices and if you change your Apple ID, for security purposes.

The sarcasm is very heavy here. I don’t know why I would ever be asked where my HomePod is located after it is initially set up. I should only ever be asked “where” once. The HOME part of the name HomePod would indicate something that doesn’t move. If I ever ask “what’s the current temperature outside?” or “what’s the forecast for today?” or “what’s today’s high?” and in response am asked by Siri “weather for where?” that location I specify should stay set as my location forever unless I go in and change some sort of location setting or reset the HomePod. Otherwise, the assumption is that people are using the HomePod mobile, which is to use it not as intended. If I were to specify a location in my query that should be a conditional response as specified on a one time basis.

But until the engineers find and fix this obvious oversight… How do I set my HomePod location? I am SO tired of my time being wasted by a question which assumes I’m constantly changing the location of my HomePod.

Unfortunately, turning Location settings OFF and ON again didn't help.

The HomePod was working just fine until about a couple of weeks ago and started to reply "Weather for where" when asked about weather-related questions.

I also went ahead and completely reset the HomePod from factory settings and set it up using my iPhone. No help.

Meanwhile, the HomePod mini works just fine.

@turingtest2, you were right. As long as everything is running 15.2 - HomePod and iOS devices.

I was turning OFF & ON Locations for the HomePod. Then I realized that I had to upgrade my iPhone to 15.2 from 15.1. The HomePod was already on 15.2.

Starting with 15.2, the location setting has moved from each device to the Home Settings.

Right after the iPhone restarted after the upgrade to 15.2, I launched the Home App and I was prompted to activate Locations Services for my home, which I did. And now Siri knows where I live again...

Want to update your HomePod? Update your iPhone first.

After spending many hours with the HomePod itself and getting it to finally update to v. 15.2 rather than just "spinning" (turn settings off then back on via the Home app), I ran across this matter of it not knowing where it was for my weather. Knew my name, knew my calendar, knew who was calling, all that stuff. But it had no idea where it was for the weather. Then I got on these discussions and found someone who discovered the answer, but they buried the lede. I'm here to exhume that lede and put it in bold text. Here you go:

Update your iDevice (iPhone, in most cases) to 15.2 BEFORE updating your HomePod.

That's it. Tah-Dah!
