Adding Mp3 to Itunes not working

I recently got a couple of songs youtube to mp3 conversion and tried to add them to itunes. Have tried dragging into itunes, have tried adding file to itunes through the file menu, have tried adding them to the automatically add to itunes folder and also tried right click open with itunes and no go for any of the options i have tried. They play in other players fine.

What is going on please help. Latest itunes 12.12.2.2 on windows 10 machine.

Judging from recent post these files are in fact downloaded in AAC (.m4a) and then given the wrong file extension rather than being properly converted into .mp3 files. Other players may ignore the discrepancy, but not iTunes. Edit the extension or find a better tool. Or buy the tracks or subscribe to one of the rental services like Apple Music.

There are options in Windows Explorer that allow you to see, and edit, file extensions. Make extensions visible (Google how), try replacing .mp3 with .m4a for one of your problem files. See how it behaves. If it works repeat the process. If not reverse the change you made and try another approach. You can try loading into VLC for example and if that plays then perhaps its convert format feature will be useful.

All the files do have MP3 extension ? Do you mean they should have m4a ?

Possibly. It depends on whether you have the same issue as others who have said changing the extension worked for them.

also have not had a problem with this before until this latest iTunes update over the last few days.

I don't know whether the issues is related to updates to iTunes, YouTube, or some of the conversion tools.

also why would they not be rejected when placed into the automatically add to iTunes folder ?

In the other cases I'm thinking of iTunes would reject from Automatically Add to iTunes. I thought you said earlier they weren't adding to iTunes when you tried.

something doesn’t seem right ???

Clearly, or you wouldn't be posting.

I did try to simply change the file extension to M4a and it did add to itunes when i dragged it in but it would not play at all.

I added them to the automatically add folder but nothing happened when i did. They did not get rejected and moved to another folder or anything, they just remain in that folder still so it appears as though that folder is not working as it should by at least rejecting the files if they are incorrect format etc.
