No, not in my opinion.
Do yourself a favor and get your hands on a real monitor.
If you cannot afford something new, though those can be had for about $100, maybe you can find something at a local thrift store for less.

I hope to use my 2011 iMac 27" in Target Display Mode. But want to avoid buying a Monitor to accomplish that task. Yes, I failed to recognize my new Intel 2018 Mac Mini 'must have' a Monitor for it's First Time Set-Up. So, I'm stuck deciding to rearrange
furniture and cabling in another room just to temporarily connect Mac Mini via HDMI to my TV for the Mac Mini Setup. The iMac will be my best choice for Display, AFTER I've setup the Mac Mini.
I think D.I. Johnson makes the best fit for my 'temporary SetUp Display' for new Intel 2018 Mac Mini. I'll just get over myself and buy one of the low cost Del Monitors.
Thanks for the thoughts on this subject!

One additional thought... if you hope to use the iMac as a monitor for the mini, you should understand that target display mode is no longer supported by Apple in macOS. TDM has been discontinued by Apple since the release of Big Sur, and has not been supported in iMac hardware since 2014. You might get it working, but the cabling is expensive and the practical use less than spectacular. Again, your best bet would be an inexpensive dedicated monitor for the mini.
You're welcome. 🙂
Yo! D.I. - thanks; My purchase of the Intel 2018 Mac Mini cites MacOS Catalina installed. My 2011 27" iMac has MacOS High Sierra.
Those MacOS are the last to fit the Intel 2018 Mac Mini to 2011 27" iMac TDM parameter. Oh Well, I ordered a Dell 24" Monitor just because it's too frustrating trying to accomplish what 'should' work. Yeah, tech problems are typically a good challenge for me; but at age 76 I figure time is more valuable than money. I'd hoped when my TDM worked with the iMac, then I could get
my Nephew to help my, 300miles away age 93, Brother to effect the same feat for his 2011 27" iMac. I agree with my Nephew that his Dad would find adjusting to a new M1 24" iMac to be really frustrating for him. At least my, and the Nephew's, efforts successfully taught him to resist opening unknown emails and to avoid the occasional Pop-Ups. He's still using his 2011
iMac; but the Nephew and I have to remind him about deleting emails. My brother's last was a Windows PC which crashed his Mail Program due to 8,000 emails in the InBox. At least he's deleting unwanted emails these days; but convincing him to create Titled Folders for kept emails has failed. Brother is still the smartest person I've ever known, and he's still crisp on his, and his Son's, life work. They're both CPA's who've enjoyed their careers beyond typical retirement age. Thanks for giving me a shove to do the certain job of buying a Monitor. At least I can get the TDM challenge off my mind now. ChipDale
